Saturday morning was filled with floral fun at Gallery 905.

At 9 a.m. ladies gathered in the art studio for a Floral Arrangement class taught by Tea Olive Designs’ Rebecca Nichols.

Nichols welcomed the participants with a bucket of Milo’s Sweet Tea as they began to arrive at the studio.

Sweet tea is important to Nichols, it’s part of Tea Olive’s slogan, “Where details rule and creativity is fueled by sweet tea.”

Nichols’ main job is wedding planning and floral design, but her side job is teaching floral arrangement classes like this one.

“At weddings, people always look at my arrangements and say, ‘I wish I could do that,’” said Nichols. “I always reply, ‘you can do it, it’s so easy!’”

Nichols hosts a few classes like this throughout the year to celebrate all the seasonal flowers and plants.

Nichols has always had a love of flowers. Her first job was at the florist at the old Piggly Wiggly in Selma.

“I’ve had a lot of different jobs but flowers are something I always come back to,” said Nichols.

Each participant in the class was given a “recipe card” instructing them as to what kinds of flowers and plants to put in their arrangements.

Nichols supervised the participants and showed them how to cut the flowers, and place them in their buckets.

“This is so much fun,” said one of the participants. “I could just do this all day.”

At the end of the class, each of the ladies had created a beautiful floral arrangement under Nichols’ guidance.
