Gospel Tabernacle Church, in collaboration with the School of Discovery, will host a disaster relief drive next Friday and Saturday.

Donations can be dropped off at the School of Discovery between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, March 15, and between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, March 16.

According to Danielle Wooten, who is helping organize the effort, the local groups are partnering with the Dream Center in Opelika and the Lee County Red Cross to provide items that are still needed, including bottled water, canned food, hygiene products, toiletries and blankets.

“Once we saw the devastation in Lee COunty, we knew we had to get involved and help our fellow Alabamians,” Wooten said. “As Christians, that’s what we’re called to do.”

Already, Gospel Tabernacle has begun purchasing items for donation and students at the School of Discovery have been collecting items to send to Lee County.

“We definitely think we’re going to be able to fill up the truck,” Wooten said.

Once the truck is loaded down with supplies, volunteers will drive it into Lee County and distribute to sites throughout the area in need.

Though Wooten is hoping that people will bring their donations on Friday and Saturday, she noted that items can be dropped off Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
