A suspect accidentally fired a gun and walked away with a case of beer inside one of the city’s Marathon Service stations on Jan. 15.

According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, the suspect entered the store located behind Felix Heights Apartments with a skull cap covering his face around 8:30 p.m. He raced to the store’s beer section. The gun went off before he could get to the store clerk. He took off running with beer in his hand.

The suspect hasn’t been caught, but he is filmed on video. The Selma Police Department (SPD) is searching for the suspect.

Jackson compared the incident to actor Don Knott’s most, famous role, Barney Fife from The Andy Griffith Show.

“This must have been some really good tasting beer,” Jackson said. “This Barney Fife robber doesn’t understand that Selma isn’t Mayberry.”

Anyone with information on the suspect or the crime is asked to call the SPD.
