Asa Del Lace began working with the Plantersville Volunteer Fire Department as a teenager.
Two decades later, Lace is still a member of the Plantersville VFD.
“I began with the fire department when I was 16 because my stepfather, Craig Fancher, is part of it,” Lace said.
Lace spent eight years in the Army from 2002-2009. While home, he worked with the fire department during that period. In the Army, Lace was a E-4 Specialist.
“It’s just life,” Lace said. “I’ve been doing firefighting since I was young. I do it because I like helping people.”
Lace said he enjoys working with the Plantersville VFD.
“We get along and work together really well,” Lance said.
Lace was born in Elkart, Indiana, but moved to Dallas County with his family at a young age. He graduated from Dallas County High School in 1999.
Lace is currently taking online classes at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California, studying jewelry and medal arts.
“I’m learning how to fabricate and make jewelry with fine medals,” Lace said.
Lace and his wife, Charlotte, have two children Asa, 13, and Lance, 11. The younger Asa competed in Martin Middle School’s first hosted robotics competition in 2017.
“The other Asa was in The Selma Times-Journal for robotics two years ago,” Lace said.
