Selma High basketball teams shine in holiday tournaments

Both Selma High basketball teams were impressive in year ending holiday tournaments over the weekend.
Rodericka Parker scored 31 points as the Lady Saints held off Foley 60-59 on Friday in the Dwight Madison Basketball Classic semifinals. Tasharri Grimes added 10 points and eight rebounds, including the game-winning points with four seconds left.
The Lady Saints fell to Carver 61-50 in the tournament finals despite 20 points from Parker. Grimes added 12 points and six rebounds.
“Give Rodericka Parker credit, she scored 73 points in three tournament games,” Lady Saints coach Anthony Harris said.
At the Mosley Shootout in Panama City, Florida, the Selma boys beat Bradford (Fla.) 52-50 on Friday. Johnny Smith scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Marqwavis Davis added 10 points and eight assists. Tyshawn Garner chipped in with 8 points and 3 steals. Terrion Posey had eight rebounds.
“It concluded a two-day defensive performance where we did not allow more than 51 points in the Mosley Shootout,” Saints coach Ronald Lane said.
At the Timothy Stallworth Classic at Wilcox Central on Friday night, Prattville Academy beat Keith 78-60.
Francis Marion defeated Dallas County 59-47 at the Timothy Stallworth Classic on Dec. 28.
Ellwood Christian Academy (ECA) played at the Big Orange Classic at Hoover High School, winning two of three tournament games on Dec. 27 and Dec. 28. ECA beat Franklin County (56-52) and Anniston (67-66), but lost to Guntersville (66-62).
