Mina Jean Thrash Atkins

Mina Jean Thrash Atkins, 88, of Pensacola Florida, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2018.

She was born on September 20, 1930 to the late Eugene Thrash and Wilhelmina Thrash in Selma.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Marshall Thrash.  Mina Jean attended The University of Alabama and was a lifelong Alabama football fan.

She is survived by her five children, Marsha Howton of Pensacola; Gene Atkins (Cathy) of Kingman, Arizona; Amelia Ravan of Charlotte, North Carolina; Sherry Levins of Jones, and Mark Atkins of Birmingham.  Grandchildren, Adam Brady of Selma; Jaime Roberts of Selma; Brooklyn Fulford (Douglas) of Selma; Wesley Atkins (Cristina) and Ethan Atkins (Kara) of Kingman, Arizona; Alex Ravan of Long Beach California, Grayson Ravan of Charlotte, North Carolina; Mason Atkins (Samantha) and Alec Atkins of Birmingham; and numerous beloved great grandchildren.

Mina Jean was a retired entrepreneur, in addition to loving and inspiring her children and their children, she was a mentor to many young people in her career.  Jean, as she was so lovingly referred to, loved all animals and nature.  In her lifetime, her rescues were many including:  dogs, cats, birds and even a squirrel named Rufus.  Jean was also a lung cancer survivor.   

Graveside service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the New Live Oak Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her late grandson, Brad Howton.
