Carolyn Dunaway, who is with DAR, said The Good Citizen must be active in school organizations, in church organizations and in community events.

“A Good Citizen must be an example to others, be a person who serves his school community and church and who has made a difference by their service,” she said. “The four qualities of a good citizen are dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

The students must be academically successful and participate in extracurricular activities and have held offices in some clubs or organizations.”

The winners were Zachery Thomas Duke, a student at Meadowview Christian, he is the son of Dale and Glenda Duke; Elizabeth Marie Adams (Ellie) of John T. Morgan Academy, she is the daughter of Bart and Stacey Adams; Alyssa Nikole Thicklin of Southside High School, she is the daughter of Gail and Albert Thicklin and Paige Alicia Pritchett of Selma High School; she is the daughter of Sherry Peoples.

The members held a Christmas Tea at the end of the recognition program to honor the students, their families and their school sponsors.

Meadowview Christian was sponsored by Donna Hollis, Morgan Academy was Karim Oaks, Col. Steve Ruiz sponsored Southside High School and Maj. Larry Spicer sponsored Selma High School.

“These students and their dedication and achievement remind us all that our future lies in the hands of our youth and we should hope that the examples set by these winners will encourage other youth,” Dunaway said.
