Recognition – Thank you, VFW for honoring law enforcement

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3016 recognized the first responders in Dallas County at its annual banquet on Sunday.

The post recognized notable law enforcement such as Lt. Micah Hale and Dallas County Sheriff Harris Hauffman Jr. as officers of the year.

Both law enforcement members have accomplished much in their career. Huffman has been a notable Sheriff for Dallas County for many years and, as he readies to pass the torch to  Mike Granthum, his services need to be recognized. Hale has survived an officer’s worst-case scenario: an ambush shooting.

We commend the post for doing this yearly banquet where they recognize notable people like these law enforcement members who have worked hard to give back and, in their case, keep the community safe.

The others who received awards were Jacob Elliott of Care Ambulance, named Outstanding Medical Care Giver of the Year, and Lt. Daniel Fulford of the Selma Fire Department (SFD), named Outstanding Fire Fighter of the Year. Both are very deserving, as are the two Morgan Academy students who received honors for their “Why My Vote Matters” essays: Kirstie Morgan (Voice of Democracy) and Brooke Shaw (Patriots Pen).

We also want to thank the post for including The Selma Times-Journal, KIX County 101.5 and WDXX 100.1 in their awards for our continued coverage of the area.
