The annual Selma City Christmas parade will be held on Saturday morning.
The theme to this year’s parade is ‘’A Magical Christmas in Selma.”
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Sheryl Smedley, executive director of the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, said the parade’s route will start at the intersection of Broad Street at the foot of the Edmund-Pettus Bridge, turns right on Furniss Avenue and travels up Washington Street and then ends.
Smedley said registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the old YMCA building. Floats and other entries for the annual Selma-Dallas County Christmas Parade will begin lining up around that time.
Local organizations including marching bands from local high schools, members of fraternities, businesses, government officials, churches and more marched are expected to ride on floats and other vehicles to help kick off the area’s holiday season.
Smedley said 73 floats will participate in the parade. She’s hoping the rain will hold off until the parade ends.
“I’m praying the rain doesn’t come through,” Smedley said. “We have a really good lineup with the different schools and organizations.”
Smedley recommends the parade attendees go to Riverfront Park after the parade to see the Christmas tree.
