The Real Men Wear Pink Gala was held Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at the Carl Morgan Convention Center on Washington Street.

Roughly 80 people were in attendance for the annual event, which featured live jazz music from the Porter Jazz Trio and a performance from comedian Dexter “Dexter T” Thornton.

Though the scene was festive, organizers left space to recognize breast cancer survivors and their caretakers who were in attendance, as well as the 31 community leaders who assisted in raising funds for the American Cancer Society (ACS).

“Our men should be very proud of themselves,” said Bridgett Mills, Senior Community Development Manager for ACS. “It’s a profound statement to have local community leaders step up and serve.”

All of the men involved pledged $500, though many raised well over that amount. All of the money raised will be contributed to the society’s work to eradicate breast cancer.

Mills noted that the event, as well as the efforts of the men involved, were incredibly important in raising awareness, as well as funds, for the ongoing fight against breast cancer, which impacts men as well as women.

“If we’re going to get to a world where there is no breast cancer, we have to focus on education and early detection,” Mills said, noting that the Dallas County contingent’s efforts would go toward funding services for people around the world.

In conjunction with recognizing the top three fundraisers at this year’s event, attendees had the opportunity to buy $2 tickets to recognize a People’s Choice candidate for the first time.
