Dallas County’s map will get its first upgrade in 30 years.
CGI Systems, based in Georgia, is mapping all the roads for the entire county. CGI Systems will drive every road in the county and use GPS and a laptop to plot out each road, according to 911 Supervisor Tracy Williams.
“We’re trying to get a more accurate and clearer picture of the structures of where the person is and what’s going on,” Williams said.
Since the last map upgrade during the late 1980’s, Williams said some roads and street names are different.
“There’s been more roads added and some street names have changed,” Williams said.
Williams also said the updated map will help first responders get to accidents faster.
“We want to make the roads more accurate for the responders and speed up their response times,” Williams said. “We’ll be able to locate the caller easier and give first responders an accurate picture of where that person is. Some mailboxes are near the residents’ homes, not in their driveway.”
Williams said the mapping project will be completed in 18 months, around March of 2020.
