Selma will be drumming up a new beat on Water Avenue on Oct.6.
The River Center for Humanity’s 100 Drummers drumming event focuses on community engagement and community togetherness, according to BlackBelt Benefit Group Co-founder Clay Carmichael.
“The whole point in it is for Selma to ‘Get in Rhythm’”, he said.
The interactive event will take place at the River Center for Humanity located at 1306 Water Avenue from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The community drumming circle will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
There will be arts and crafts workshops, professional drummers and food trucks for residents to enjoy.
With trash issues repeatedly being a reoccurring debate amongst residents and the Selma City Council, Carmichael said this is a way to help clean up the city.
“They will be collecting trash from around town and using certain items to fill the drums,” he said. “They’re going to have workshops throughout the day building drums.
The BlackBelt Benefit Group is partnering with the organization to make the event a success.
Earlier this month, the BlackBelt Benefit Group received a $1970 grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts (ASCA) to go towards the event. The ASCA is funded through the National Endowment on the Arts.
