The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) recently named Selma High student Bryant Gordon as its latest member.

The NSHSS recognizes top scholars with commitment to leadership, scholarship and involvement in the community.

“It feels good to get this honor and I’m very blessed,” Gordon said. “I found out that I was getting the award during the summer. I was surprised because nothing like this has ever happened to me before.”

NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel praised Gordon’s dedication in and out of the classroom.

“I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and commitment Bryant has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” Nobel said in a release. “Bryant is now a member of a unique community of scholars, a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”

NSHSS President James W. Lewis said the organization provides lifetime membership and assists the students on the prep and college levels.

“We aim to help students like Bryant build on their academic success by connecting them with unique learning experiences and resources to help prepare them for college and meaningful careers,” Lewis said.
