Dallas County Commission to submit application for new International Paper road

The Dallas County Commission approved submitting an application for a new road to International Paper (IP) to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) Industrial Access Board at their meeting Monday at the Dallas County Courthouse.

Dallas County Probate Judge and Chairman Kim Ballard and Dallas County Engineer George Jones will talk with the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) about funding for the $1.75 million project. They will submit an application to get approval for the fund in October.

The entire Commissioners was present for the meeting.

Commissioner Roy Moore said the road hasn’t been fixed since IP opened in 1965.

The Commission also approved Jones’ request to repair County Road 7 in Sardis.

Jones said the bid hasn’t been awarded and it must be approved by ALDOT before work starts on the road.

Commissioner Valerie Reubin, Kendra Sanders and Glenda Collins all received certificates at last week’s Association of County Commissions of Alabama (ACCA) Convention at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach. Reubin received a certificate in Alabama Local Government training. Sanders received a certificate in a basic level course. Collins received a certificate in county administration.
