The Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama (GSSA) is hosting a Girl Scouts recruitment event on Sept. 15 at Church Street United Methodist Church in the Windham Hall at 10 a.m.

The organization is seeking all girls grade levels Kindergarten through 12th-grade for the local Girl Scout Troops.

There is no limit on the number of girls, and Meghan Cochrane, director of marketing and communications GSSA, said the group is also looking for leaders as well.

“There are no requirements to be a Girl Scout,” she said. “We are also looking for volunteers to lead troops in the Selma area.”

Cochrane said there are multiple benefits to joining the Girl Scouts.

“At Girl Scouts, your girl will prepare for a lifetime of leadership, success and adventure in a safe, no-limits place designed for and by girls,” she said.

Cochrane said the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is a collection of engaging, challenging and fun activities like earning badges, going on awesome trips, selling cookies, exploring science, getting outdoors and doing community service projects.

“At Girl Scouts, she’ll get to team up with other girls in an all-girl environment to choose the exciting, hands-on activities that interest her the most,” she said. “Along the way, she’ll gain important skills in four areas that form the foundation of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.”

Through Girl Scouts, girls learn about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), outdoors, life skills and entrepreneurship.

“Girl Scouts prepares girls for a lifetime of leadership,” Cochrane said. “In fact, being a Girl Scout helps girls thrive in five key ways.”
