Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier confirmed Monday night that Rose Sanders, Sen. Hank Sanders’ wife, has been charged for stealing campaign signs out of private property.
Collier said Rose will be charged with fourth-degree theft and eluding police.
The incident occurred at 6:25 p.m. on Monday night when police caught Rose allegedly stealing Probate Judge candidate Nick Switzer campaign signs in the area around Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Collier said Rose was taken into custody on Broad Street.
“She fled long enough for multiple officers to get in the pursuit,” he said.
Hank Sanders said that Rose complained to city officials that other city officials were allegedly stealing Probate Judge candidate Jimmy Nunn’s campaign signs.
Hank also said that nine police officers were waiting for Rose at the place where she was allegedly stealing signs.
“I can’t believe the police can’t solve so many murders, but yet they can send nine cop cars to arrest a person taking down campaign signs,” Hank said. “Something is wrong with that.”
Collier said once Rose is processed there will be a $1,000 bond on both charges.
