On Saturday, Aug. 4, from noon to 3 p.m., Food Truck Saturday will be held downtown at 1122 Water Avenue. This event is an addition to the event known as the First Morning Art Walk.
Clay Carmichael, Secretary and Co-Founder of the Blackbelt Benefit Group said that the First Morning Art Walk inspired Food Truck Saturday and it soon became a way to expand the Art Walk and entertain visitors and locals.
According to Carmichael, four food trucks will be present during the event at a venue at the Play Selma Music Hall. Tally-Ho will have its food truck, and for those who enjoyed Charlie’s Place’s food can once again enjoy its meals, as Charlie Morgan will also have a food truck available.
A food truck serving BBQ foods will be present as well, along with an ice cream truck serving cold treats.
A fifth food truck is currently in the works and is expected to make its debut by next spring, said Carmichael.
Carmichael said that events rarely occur downtown and he hopes that Food Truck Saturday will keep the downtown area lively and inviting.
Carmichael also said that visitors usually appear on Saturdays, and this event with music playing, art being displayed, and food being served will hopefully attract them.
“I hope some folks come out and enjoy it,” Carmichael said. “It’s always up in the air with the first event, and the community is going to receive it, but we just hope some folks will come out and enjoy it.”
According to Carmichael there has been an insurgence of food trucks and he believes that they will be a great addition to the Art Walk.
After Aug. 4, Food Truck Saturday is set to occur every first Saturday of each month.
