A 26-year-old Selma man was shot to death early Saturday morning at a gas station on Highland Avenue.
Dallas County Coroner Alan Dailey identified the victim as Ernest Weaver Daniels III. Dailey said he was pronounced dead on the scene from multiple gunshot wounds to the body.
According to Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier, officers were dispatched to the Raceway on Highland Avenue around 3 a.m. in reference to a shooting.
“Upon arrival, patrol officers discovered Ernest Daniels lying on the pavement in the parking lot near the gas pumps,” Collier said. Care Ambulance also responded, but was unable to revive Daniels.”
Collier said two other suspects were also shot. He identified the victims as 20-year-old Matravius Aaron and 19-year-old Marquavius Benjamin, both of Selma. They both suffered gunshots to lower extremities and were transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center prior to police arriving on the scene.
Investigators discovered a green Ford Expedition on the scene with multiple bullet holes in it, according to Collier. Several shell casings were also found and recovered in the parking lot.
Collier said investigators are working the case as a homicide and two first-degree assaults.
At this point in the investigation, what happened is still unclear, so the department is asking for assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the shooting.
A suspect has not been identified, but Collier said investigators believe a single suspect shot all three victims.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Selma Police Department at (334) 874-6611 or the Criminal Investigation Division at (334) 874-2125.
