Laura Frances Smith

Laura Frances Smith, 95, of Selma, passed April 20, 2018, after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Maude Holley; father, Glenn Holley; husband, Stanley Smith and brother, Harvey Holley.
She is survived by her son, Mark Smith of Montgomery; nephews, Glenn Holley, III of Selma and John Dann of Vernon, Connecticut; nieces, Emily Heflin of Tuscaloosa and Cindy Welch of Thorsby, as well as numerous cousins.
Laura was born February 8,1923 in Marvel, Alabama. She spent her childhood in Vredenburgh, Alabama and was part of the class of 1941 at Beatrice High School. She moved to Selma in 1941 and was employed at Southern Bell Telephone Company (AT&T), where she retired in 1983. In 1942 she met her future Husband, Stanley, who was part of the first movement stationed at the newly established Craig Air Force base in Selma.
They married 7 years later in 1949 and were together until his death in 2003. She was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held in Selma at Church Street United Methodist Church in the Calhoun Parlor on Wednesday, April 25 from 1-2 p.m., followed by a memorial service in the sanctuary, at 2 p.m.
Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. Rev. Lance Eiland of Church Street United Methodist Church will officiate. Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma Directing.
Pallbearers will be: Buddy Perkins, Buddy Howorth, Frankie Rogers, Rick Baker, and Scott Koerner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Selma Animal Shelter. Laura was a strong believer in animal rights.
