Local artist Karen Weir and Montgomery artist Maria Freedman will have their art on display at the Selma Art Guild for a joint showing.

The show will give guests the rare treat to look at the work and talk to the artists about their art.

“I think the Selma Art Guild does a good job at [showing off local artists], because we are trying to have the community who normally maybe don’t get to large places, be exposed to and meet the artist and talk to them,” Weir said. “It’s really fun because you can expose your [art] to people who haven’t seen it before.”

The show will feature paintings, drawing and even photographs from the two artists, giving the public a show with various attractions.

“She’s going to have a variety of things and I’m going to have a variety of things because we’re not just known for oil paint or just known for watercolors or whatever,” Weir said. “Both of us have quite a few diverse [works].”

Freedman said she is looking forward to the show and seeing what all people have to say about her work.

“I am really looking forward [to the show]. I do all kinds of preparations to make sure that it will be a big success that [way] people that come will enjoy it,” Freedman said. “I’m very curious of people’s reactions to my art work.”

The show, “The Diverse Artwork of Two Artists,” will open Sunday, April 8 from 2-4 p.m. for a reception.

“I have a mix of very precise type work and also type work, so it’s always very interesting to me to see which one people like and for what reasons. It’s a nice feedback for me,” Weir said.

“I think it’s going to be a fun contrast. She does beautiful work, and it’s completely different from mine, so in a way it’s like going to a gallery where you have a great variety.”

The show will remain open from noon until 4 p.m. on Friday’s and Saturday’s at the gallery located at 508 Selma Ave. There is no charge.
