A high-speed chase that started in Autauga County Tuesday evening ended in a head-on collision with a telephone pole on Water Avenue.
According to Senior Trooper Reginal King, the chase started after a trooper clocked a grey Chevrolet Silverado driving 80 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone.
King said the chase made its way into Dallas County and eventually into Selma. As the truck sped down Water Avenue, it appeared to turn right onto Lawrence Street. The driver turned too wide and struck a telephone pole head-on, but the chase didn’t end there.
King said the driver jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. The suspect was identified as 52-year-old Temple Mark Hill of Prattville.
Hill was apprehended a few blocks away and taken into custody. He was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer. Hill was booked into the Autauga County Jail.
The loud crash drew the attention of people working in nearby businesses to see what was going on. Several people stood by on the sidewalks and watched as officers investigated the scene.
Officers with the Selma Police Department and Dallas County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene, as well as an ambulance, but the suspect was not taken to the hospital.
Information on the chase and crash was not immediately released Tuesday by Alabama State Troopers.
