The burglaries happened in May 2016. According to an incident report, Calhoun Foods was burglarized on May 14, 2016. The burglary at Mr. Roy’s on Highland Avenue occurred a few days later on May 17, 2016 around 3:30 a.m.

An incident report states an employee of the store was called after and alarm at the store was triggered. When officers arrived on scene, the store’s sliding glass door had been busted out. Officers were told Bolden broke into the store and took eight cartons of Newport cigarettes. The key to the store’s vault was also missing.

At the time of Bolden’s arrest, then Selma Police Chief John Brock said surveillance video from both stores assisted investigators with the case, as well as tips from the community.
