Marvin Bristol Haughton

Marvin Bristol Haughton was born to Kenneth Charles Haughton and Gladys Grimes Haughton in Selma, on Nov. 9, 1936.  He passed away Feb. 20, 2018.  Bristol was a 1955 graduate of Albert G. Parrish High School in Selma. He earned a degree in psychology from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, where he was a Gownsmen in the Order of the Gown and a member of Delta Tau Delta. After several moves across the Southeast, Bristol and his family settled in Haleyville where he made a career in commercial insurance with Tidwell Industries before founding his own agency. Bristol was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 42 years Patti Ann Eveland Haughton.

A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 from 10 a.m. until noon with the memorial service at noon at First Baptist Church, Haleyville.

He is survived by his children Marvin Bristol Haughton, Jr. (Chip) and his wife Evette, Kenneth Howard (Kent) Haughton and his wife Selma, Gladys Amanda (Mandy) Little and her husband Jim, and Christopher Robin (Boo) Haughton and his wife Jenny. Grandchildren include Marvin Bristol Haughton III (Trae) and wife Megan, Andrew Alexander (Drew) Haughton, Sara Kathryn Haughton, James Monroe Little II, Christopher Reid Haughton, Claudia Bleu Haughton, and Mei Eveland Haughton. Bristol Boyd Haughton, Jackson Wiley Haughton, and Cadience Kyleigh Haughton are great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother Kenneth Haughton and sister Jobeth Haughton Nelson. Other survivors include daughter-in-law Brenda Wiley and a host of family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers are James Arthur, John Calvert, Jr., Judge Lee Carter, John Tyler Dobbs, John Lyle King, and John Tedder.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the United Methodist Children’s Home, 3140 Zelda Court Suite 100, Montgomery, Alabama 36106-2607 and The Mark Forester Foundation, 171 County Road 3401, Haleyville, AL 35565.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Wynne of Grandview Medical Center and Comfort Care Hospice.
