EDITORIAL: Christian Outreach Alliance Food Pantry looking for helping hands

The Christian Outreach Alliance Food Pantry is looking for help to distribute food to those in need.
The alliance, which was founded in 1998 by the five downtown churches at the time, is a volunteer-run organization that gives out food each Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until noon at the Miller Childers Center on J.L. Chestnut Jr. Boulevard.
Because the organization is run solely on volunteers and donations, they are looking for more help to give out the food.
In October, prior to the pantry’s “Stock the Shelves” campaign, volunteer and treasurer Nancy Bennett said the pantry serves a total of 1,337 people, which accounts for 664 families. Around 250 eight-pound bags of food are given out there each week.
The alliance does a great job in helping others, and we encourage anyone looking for a way to help to pitch in and help distribute the food there.
