There is a chance of some icy road conditions Sunday, which will be followed by some of the coldest weather in recent memory.

Places like Selma, Clanton, Tuscaloosa and Demopolis could see limited impacts of slick spots on roadways, bridges and overpasses on Sunday from 3 a.m. to 6 p..m.

Dallas County is under a winter weather advisory for a light mix of freezing rain/sleet.

After Sunday, the area will experience a prolonged period of cold weather. Lows Monday and Tuesday morning could be in the teens. It could be Friday or Saturday before Central Alabama warms above 40 degrees.

The National Weather Service is advising people to prepare by wrapping pipes or at least letting the water drip to prevent freezing. Also, now is the time to check on elderly and disabled neighbors to make sure they have a way to stay warm. Also bring in pets and any plants that can be damaged from the freezing weather.
