After Sunday, the area will experience a prolonged period of cold weather. Lows Monday and Tuesday morning could be in the teens. It could be Friday or Saturday before Central Alabama warms above 40 degrees.

The National Weather Service is advising people to prepare by wrapping pipes or at least letting the water drip to prevent freezing. Also, now is the time to check on elderly and disabled neighbors to make sure they have a way to stay warm. Also bring in pets and any plants that can be damaged from the freezing weather.
