EDITORIAL: YMCA made improvements under Murray’s, Thomas’ leadership

Changes are ahead for the YMCA of Selma and Dallas County. That’s because CEO Ann Murray will step down after leading the organization for the past four years. The Y’s chief volunteer officer Ray Thomas will also resign his position in a couple of months as he and his wife move to Virginia.
Both should be congratulated on the work they have done. Murray has been with the YMCA since January 2014 and has overseen a vast increase in memberships. More people are using the YMCA than ever before. That’s a testament to Murray’s hard work. Under her leadership, the YMCA has also built an on-site soccer field and walking trail and started Power Scholars, a summer camp to help students with math and reading.
Thomas has also spent countless hours working in his position, which is completely voluntary.
We wish both the best in their next chapters and thank them for their contributions to the Y and Selma community.
