Carlton Thomas Stewart

It is with both sorrow and joy we tell you of our father Carlton Thomas Stewart’s passing.
At age 92, he went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Dec. 19, 2017.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Crestwood Chapel with graveside military honors to follow. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home announcing.
”Papa Carlton” or ”Sergeant Stewart” as many knew him, had lost his wife Sarah F. Stewart of 50 years in 1995.
Survivors include their children, Carla (Chuck)Watkins, Tim (Brenda) Stewart and Kent (Debbie) Stewart; sisters, Eunice Lowman and Sarah Armstrong.
He dearly loved his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all adored him.
He remarried after Sarah’s passing to Helen Moss Stewart, her children being Jimmy (Dale) Moss and sweet Lori Moss.
God blessed him with a long life, and with that life he was a great servant to both God and man. He was a Christian who served as a deacon and a Gideon and he taught Sunday school class for many years.
He proudly served as a WWII, 1st Class Boatswain’s Mate in the United States Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theater. In civilian life, he was a sergeant and post commander with the Alabama State Troopers for 30 years.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and honorary pallbearers will be Alabama State Troopers.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Mountain Cove Assisted Living and Amedisys Hospice care for treating our father with both love and dignity.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that any donations be made to “Fruit of The Vine Ministries.”
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from noon until the time of service.
