EDITORIAL: Have a happy Thanksgiving
Published 9:29 pm Wednesday, November 22, 2017
While many people will enjoy turkey and dressing and a little bit of everything else today, Thanksgiving Day is about much more than just filling our plates, stuffing our faces, napping and watching football.
This day is about being thankful and having gratitude for the good things in life, for our family, for our friends and the list goes on and on. On this day, we encourage you to take a few moments out of your day to reflect on all the positive in our lives.
Here in Selma and Dallas County, we have many issues and problems that need fixing, but on this day we don’t need to focus on those or point those out.
On this day, we need to be thankful for those around us.
As we are all gathered around the table eating our favorite Thanksgiving foods and enjoying time with our families, we should think about those who don’t have that luxury. We should think about those that are less fortunate. We should think about those that are standing by for an emergency call, such as policemen, firemen and EMTs.
We should also think about those who are serving others on this day at places like the Bosco Nutrition Center, where hundreds will eat Thanksgiving dinner. Most of us are off work, but they are not. We are thankful for all they do. We are thankful for their protection and their servitude.
We are thankful for our print and digital subscribers that trust us to report the news and inform the community on what is going on in Selma and Dallas County. Even though not everyone will agree with what we write, we are thankful to readers when they share their opinions with us.
There is a lot of be thankful for. Let us be the first to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving.
