WEEKEND TICKET: Paul Grist Fall Festival, Art Walk, Fair make for busy Saturday

October in Selma and Dallas County is always a busy time, and this weekend is full of events.

From the Paul Grist State Park’s Fall Festival to the final day of the Central Alabama Fair, there is plenty to do Saturday.

Things will kick off with the 1st Morning Art Walk at 8 a.m. until noon around downtown, where different artists and business will be open for people to check out what they have to offer.

Paul Grist State Park will open its gates at 9 a.m. for the second annual  Fall Festival hosted by the Friends of Paul M. Grist State Park. There will be around 85 vendors at the event featuring everything from face painting and train rides for kids to artists, food and much more.

“We are excited. Some of the vendors and volunteers that came here are starting to come in, and everybody is starting to get their chores done so we’ll be ready,” said Anita Ellison, a volunteer with the group. “We’re praying the weather holds out, and everybody can come and have a good time.”

The entry fee is $5 per person and children 5 and under are free. There is a pumpkin patch for those wanting to take home a pumpkin for an additional $5.

Haunted History Tours for Old Cahawba are already sold out for this year, but those interested can still take part in the action at the Hear the Dead Speak walking tour starting at 10 a.m.

The tour is $8 per person, and no reservations are required. For more information, call (334) 872-8058.

International Paper’s Art Show will also be on display at the Carneal ArtsRevive building on Church Street from 11 a.m. until 4 pm.

The Central Alabama Fair will close out its 2017 season Saturday. Gates to the fairgrounds open at 1 p.m. Lions Club Family Day will run from 1 until closing. Armbands for rides will be $20 from 1-5 p.m.

The Tiny Miss Central Alabama Fair Pageant will take place at 2 p.m., while the Little Miss Central Alabama Fair Pageant will follow at 4 p.m. The 4-H Chick Chain will be at 2:30 p.m.
