Tickets for Sturdivant Hall’s annual Barbecue on the Green are now on sale.

The barbecue is the museum’s biggest fundraiser of the year and is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 28 from 6-9 p.m.

“All the money that we make goes back towards Sturdivant Hall,” said Patti Currey, who runs the gift shop at the museum.

Tickets are $25 each, and can be purchased from Sturdivant Hall board members or at the museum. Tickets are also available at Carter Drug, Pilcher McBride Drug, Swift Drug Store, and the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s a beautiful environment that is very well decorated and very relaxing. Everybody has a good time in fellowship,” Currey said. “It’s just a good way to let people come and enjoy themselves and visit.”

Tickets include barbecue dishes, dessert, beer, wine and soft drinks.

“The food is really good,” Currey said. “It’s just a wonderful environment. We’ve been doing this for a long time, and we have a lot of repeat people that come every year.”

Currey said she encourages people that haven’t been before to buy a ticket and enjoy the green. She said the board members come the weekend before the event and work in the yard making sure everything is in tip-top shape.

“We’re revving up here trying to get the grounds ready and the house ready,” Currey said. “They work on the grounds by cutting trees, putting pine straw out. We work in the yard to do the maintenance.”

Sandy Greene, a board member who helps promote the event, said it is a great time to see friends and people in the community.

“We see people that come out there that you don’t hardly see the rest of the year,” Greene said. “You see old friends, and then you have people that come from out of town.”

Greene said corporate sponsorships are also available. So far, she said there are 18-20 sponsors.

“We still have room for more corporate sponsors, and what they do is they get a table for eight,” Greene said.

Sponsorships are $350 for a table for eight people.
