EDITORIAL: Several school supply giveaways coming up

Several groups throughout Selma and Dallas County are planning school supply giveaways in the coming weeks before the new school year starts. It is great to see so many people giving back and providing children with the supplies they need to go to school and get an education. For some students, these giveaways may be the only opportunity they have to get school supplies, which is needed in the classroom to complete their work.
In Friday’s edition of the Times-Journal, we published a story about several of the groups that are planning on giving away school supplies to make sure parents know when and where they can get school supplies for their children.
The city of Selma is giving out school supplies on Aug. 5 from 4-7 p.m. at the River Rally. The Mercy Group in Selmont is planning a giveaway at Selmont Community Church on Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. Saving the Southside and New Peace Church will give away school supplies after a prayer march today at 9 a.m. Orrville Baptist Church will also hold theirs today from 9-10 a.m. Alabama Power has one planned for July 27 at the Church Street office.
There are several opportunities, and we hope parents take advantage of them to make sure their children have the supplies they need.
