He has a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in journalism and sports from Morehouse College and a master’s degree in magazine, newspaper and online journalism from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

While at Morehouse and Syracuse, Scott reported on a variety of NCAA Division I sports, including, football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey.

He also played baseball at Morehouse and is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

“I’m very excited to begin my career with The Selma Times-Journal,” Scott said. “Selma is going to be a new adventure for me, and I’m looking forward to experiencing what it has to offer. The last time I was here was for a baseball series against Selma University. Now that I’m here to stay, I can’t wait to fully explore and join the Selma community.”

Scott will cover news and sports for the Times-Journal and contribute to special sections as well as Selma The Magazine.

“While Thomas will contribute to our newsroom in many ways, his experience in sports and sports reporting set him apart. He is also coming on board at the perfect time as high schools start preparing for football and other fall sports,” Times-Journal editor Justin Averette. “We are excited to welcome Thomas to our newsroom and look forward to what he will add to our team.”
