Keith High School has been placed on lockdown after someone called the school and threatened a school shooting Thursday.

“We had a phone call that there was going to be a shooting there,” said Dallas County Superintendent Hattie Shelton. “We got the sheriff out to make sure that we were safe, and we’ve kept it locked up.”

Chief Deputy Randy Pugh with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the lockdown Thursday afternoon. Pugh said deputies are stationed at the school, and the department is looking into the threat.

The validity of the threat is unknown at this time.

“We’ve asked that [deputies] stay in the area in case wherever that threat came from does appear we’ll have coverage,” Shelton said. “Right now, I think we’re okay, and school should be on lockdown. Parents should already be talking to the principal and the district administrator over there.”

Pugh did not identify who the threat came from. Deputies will be stationed at the school until after students are released this afternoon as a safety measure.
