Lighting plan a win-win

Alabama Power and the city of Selma are in talks to upgrade light fixtures throughout the city. The new lights would be LED, which provide better lighting overall than the city’s old lights.
Maurice Raynaud, Alabama Power lighting services manager, called the LED lights a “game changer” in the lighting industry.
Alabama Power owns most of the street lights within the city limits, with the city paying a flat rate for each of the fixtures.
The LED lights won’t cost anything up front and Alabama Power would like to keep the city’s costs the same.
There are several spots in the city that could use better lighting and Alabama Power is willing to work with city leaders to figure out the best plan for everyone.
Swapping to LED lights sounds like a win-win for both sides.
Better lighting, especially in a city that has too much crime, can only be a good thing.
