R.C. Hatch boys to play for 2A state title, girls lose in semis

R.C. Hatch’s boys basketball team will play for the state championship.

The Bobcats (23-2) rolled over Sheffield (23-10) 51-27 to reach Friday’s state championship game.

R.C. Hatch was paced by three players in double figures. Jalen Lockett led the way with 12 points, Venantris Lipscomb had 11 and Tyler Rhone chipped in 10. Seven players scored in all for the Bobcats.

Hatch led 25-14 at halftime and held Sheffield to only 12 points in the second half. The Bobcats outrebounded Sheffield 41-31.

This is R.C. Hatch’s first championship appearance since 2009. The Bobcats will look for their first state title since winning three of four from 2006-2009.

R.C. Hatch will play Barbour County or Lanett in the 2A state championship game.
Tanner 60, R.C. Hatch 24 (Girls)

The R.C. Hatch girls’ basketball team saw its championship run end Monday in the Alabama High School Athletic Association 2A state semifinals in Birmingham.

The Bobcats were held to five points in the first half and lost to Tanner 60-24.

Kirstin Brown scored 25 points and had 24 rebounds in an impressive performance that led Tanner (27-2) to the win. Tanner led 30-5 at halftime and outrebounded Hatch 32-18 in the game.

Patiniquia Collins led Hatch (22-5) with 10 points.
