Buying stew means supporting Legion’s work in the Selma community

The American Legion Thomas R. Mackin Post 20 is selling its Brunswick stew this weekend. The sale raises money for the post’s community projects each year.
Charlie Friday, the post commander, said the money helps students attend Boys and Girls State at the University of Alabama, sponsors three little league teams and provides flags to all the schools in Selma.
The post does a lot of good in Selma and buying a quart of stew only costs $9 (a gallon is $34). The stew sale started about 30 years ago, but other than a few minor tweaks, the original recipe is still mostly intact.
The stew includes chicken, pork, corn, potatoes and tomatoes.
“Our only problem is that we can’t get it cupped up fast enough,” Friday said on Monday.
We encourage everyone to get the stew a try this week.
Not only is it tasty, but it also helps the American Legion do its work in the community. The only problem is catching them before they run out.
Stew will be sold through Saturday, as long as they still have some available.
