A Selma teenager was injured in a rash of shootings over the weekend.

According to Lt. Sam Miller with the Selma Police Department, an 18-year-old was grazed by a bullet while walking with a group of friends on the 1300 block of Green Street.

“Him and his buddies were walking from an apartment complex. They heard multiple gunshots. He saw a couple of black males jump out of the bushes and start running toward him and his friends,” Miller said. “As they were running from them, the guys started shooting at them.”

Miller said the incident happened between 10-11 p.m. Sunday night. The victim was treated at Vaughan Regional Medical Center and later released.

Miller said investigators don’t have much information, so no suspects have been identified in the case.

Several houses were also shot into between Friday and early Monday morning.

A house on the 2600 block of Old Montgomery Highway was shot into, but no one was injured. A house on the 900 block of Hood Street was shot into on Sunday between 7-8 p.m.

“That house was shot into multiple times,” Miller said. “No idea who did that.”

A house on the 1100 block of Churchill Avenue was shot into on the same day, and an apartment complex on the 1200 block of Woodrow Avenue was shot into early Monday morning between 12-1 a.m. Miller said all the residences were occupied at the time of the shooting. There are currently no suspects at the time, but Miller said investigators are hoping someone will come forward with information.

“Until the citizens are ready to step up and take back their neighborhoods and stand up, there’s not much we can do. We’ve got to have somebody willing to testify and lock them down,” Miller said.

Miller said there are not a lot of details on these shootings at the moment, which is something the department deals with regularly.

“You want to give these people closure, you want to give them answers, you want to give them peace of mind and safety,” Miller said.
