Relay for Life helps save lives, raise awareness for cancer

Friday we ran an article about nine-year-old Adyn Weatherly’s story of helping her mom, Tonda Wheaton, with Relay for Life for the last few years and being diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Giloma in 2016.

Her story is inspiring, and we hope it sheds light on how important and beneficial Relay for Life can  be to those in the community.

Adyn and her family have seen first hand how the money raised through the event can benefit those that need it.

Adyn spent six weeks in the Ronald McDonald House over the summer while she was getting chemotherapy and radiation, and it was funds raised by Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society that helped make that happen. Battling cancer is no easy task, but Wheaton said the ACS has helped make it easier for her and her family.

We hope her story will inspire people in the community to sign up for a team to walk for Relay for Life of Dallas County. Anyone interested can call Alvin Craig, event leader, at (334) 538-0771.
