Selma Times-Journal staff writer Daniel Evans has been promoted to news editor.

In the role, Evans will have a leadership role in the planning and execution of the daily newspaper and special sections. He will continue to lead the newspaper’s sports coverage.

“I’m appreciative of this new position, and I’m excited to get to serve the community in this new role,” Evans said.

Evans has been with the Times-Journal since June 2013 and is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he earned a degree in journalism. He and his wife, Alyssa, are expecting their first child later this year.

“Daniel has been a tremendous asset to our newspaper over the last few years, and I’m excited to see what he will do in this new role while continuing to lead our sports coverage,” said Editor Justin Averette.
