Arrest made during business burglary

A 26-year-old Selma man was caught red-handed early Friday morning after he allegedly broke into a store on Broad Street.

According to a press release from interim Selma Police Chief Johnny King, officers responded to a burglary call at a store on the 100 block of Broad Street around 12:40 a.m. Friday.

“Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that a male was inside the business after hours with the business’ property in his hand,” King said.

Officers arrested Trendall Carter without incident and charged him with third-degree burglary.

“The officers did an outstanding job in apprehending the arrestee,” King said in the release.

Third-degree burglary is a Class C felony and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and $15,000 in fines. The minimum prison sentence is no less than one year.

Carter, who injured himself breaking into the Broad Street store, was treated for his injuries and transported to the Dallas County Jail, where he was booked on a $15,000 bond.

King said the case is still pending further investigation.
