19-year-old shot while walking down Lewis Street Thursday

The Selma Police Department is looking for the person responsible for shooting a 19-year-old Thursday night.
According to a press release from interim Police Chief Johnny King, the shooting happened Dec. 29 around 6:41 p.m.
King said officers were dispatched to the emergency room at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in reference to a gunshot victim. According to the release, the victim was a 19-year-old black male from Selmont.
King said the shooting happened on the 2400 block of Lewis Street. The victim was walking down the street with some other people when shots rang out.
It is unclear where the teenager was shot or what type of weapon he was shot with.
The teen was initially treated in Selma and was transported to a medical facility out of town for further treatment and observation.
The Selma Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is heading up the investigation.
“The Selma Police Department is requesting community support and involvement in reporting these very dangerous suspects to the police,” King said. “The Selma Police Department will use all available resources in the effort to make an arrest.”
