Busy holiday weekend for SPD

It was a busy holiday weekend for the Selma Police Department.
Officers responded to calls involving assault, robbery and discharging a firearm into an occupied building.
On Dec. 23, a 75-year-old woman was robbed while putting gas in her vehicle. According to an incident report, the woman had just left church and went to fill her vehicle up at 11:23 p.m. on the 1500 block of Alabama Highway 14 East. When officers arrived on the scene, the woman told them she paid for her gas and returned to her car. She said she felt something tugging on her purse and noticed a black male trying to take her purse from her.
After tugging back and forth, the suspect snatched the purse away from the 75-year-old woman, knocking her to the ground. The suspect then got into a vehicle and fled the scene.
On Christmas Eve, a house on the 100 block of Cummings Circle was shot into with four women inside.
According to an incident report, there was a 53-year-old, 36-year-old, 47-year-old and 45-year-old inside. They told officers they were asleep when the shooting happened. According to the report from the responding officer, the weapon used in the shooting was a rifle.
On the same day, a 29-year-old male was shot on the 1200 block of Water Avenue.
According a report from the police department, an officer responded to clear a crowd and was notified by a security guard about a shooting that had just occurred.
The guard told the officer the victim was escorting a woman to a car when he heard a gunshot. The victim did not know who shot him.
On Dec. 26, a 32-year-old male was shot during an argument, and a house on the 2700 block of Matthew Lane was shot into.
According to a report, there was a 36-year-old woman inside when the shooting happened.
Another house was shot into the next day on Dec. 27 on the 2400 block of Poplar Street around 1 a.m. When officers responded to the scene, a 41-year-old woman said she was inside her home asleep when she heard gunshots. After the shooting stopped, she went outside to see what happened.
Officers found bullet holes in the front door and a window shutter. They also found where the bullets penetrated interior walls inside the home. The victim’s vehicle was also shot.
