Unarmed man attempts to rob hotel

An unarmed man attempted to rob a Selma hotel Wednesday morning, but was unsuccessful.
According to a press release from interim Selma Police Chief Johnny King, officers responded to the 2000 block of Lincoln Way for an attempted robbery call around 3:57 a.m.
In the release, King stated officers were advised when they arrived on scene that an unarmed black male came into the hotel and demanded cash.
The man was not armed, and no one was injured during the attempted robbery.
According to the release, the suspect fled the hotel after not receiving any money.
The police department’s Criminal Investigation was notified and are actively investigating the case. The department is asking for anyone with information about the attempted robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-442-7463, the Criminal Investigations Division at 874-2125 or the Secret Witness Line at 874-2190.
First-degree attempted robbery is a Class B felony in the state of Alabama with a punishment of no less than two years and no more than 20 years in prison and a fine of no more than $30,000.
A more detailed description of the suspect has not been released.
No one from the hotel could be reached for comment Friday.
