Police need community’s help in solving recent homicides

During this time of the year, we get calls just about every day about a group, organization or person making a donation in Selma or Dallas County.
The number of those calls speaks to the generosity of this community and the incredible tight knit group of people we have here. The community support increases even more when something bad happens and people try to do anything they can to help out.
Last week, we wrote about a tragic house fire that killed a mother and daughter, Katrina Moore and her daughter Coleman Moore. Katrina graduated from Selma High School in 1992 and her classmates have worked together to create a GoFundMe page that has raised more than $2,000 to help the family.
We’re sure others have donated as well, trying to help the family pay funeral costs and to find living arrangements for others who escaped the burning house.
In today’s paper, we wrote about the death of 19-year-old Jaequan Simmons, a recent Keith High School graduate. So many have already shared their condolences on social media and we’re confident many have reached out to help the family in this time of need.
That’s just how the community here in Selma, Orrville and Dallas County works. People see a problem and they want to help. During the Christmas season, that’s magnified tenfold and both families will continue to need support to get through this difficult time.
While the support is welcomed and needed, what both families need is for anyone with information about either one of these homicides to come forward so that the person responsible can be brought to justice.
We urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-442-7463, call (334) 874-6611 police communications), (334) 874-2125 or (334) 874-2190 (the secret witness line).
Any information may be helpful in tracking down the people responsible for these terrible crimes and both families deserve the closure an arrest could help provide.
