Selma’s Purrrfect Pals is hosting its first ever Home for the Holidays event at the Selma Animal Shelter Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in hopes that someone might find their forever friend just in time for Christmas.
“It’s just a really great way to say thank you to the supporters and adopters and hopefully create a place where people want to go so we can get homes for the cats for Christmas,” said Shannon Lynch, founder of Selma’s Purrrfect Pals.
Lych and Jacque Johnson came up with the idea to host the event, where everyone can come out to interact with the cats and kittens and even have their photo made with Santa.
“You can come and eat and play with a cat and get your picture taken with Santa,” Lynch said.
Cat adoptions are normally $50, but approved adopters will be able to take one home for only $25 during the event.
All cats will be vet checked, up-to-date on immunizations, spayed or neutered and micro-chipped and ready to find their home for the holidays.
Even people not interested in adopting a cat are invited to come out to celebrate with the animals.
Johnson said the cats always love to have people to play with or just visit with them. Donations of cat litter, treats, blankets, pillows or cash are always helpful to the shelter as they try to provide for all of the felines. Johnson said all cash donations will go for vetting and finding of loving forever homes for the rescued cats and kittens of Selma and Dallas County.
Lynch said she hopes that everyone will find themselves a friend to take home during the event, but that it’s also for those that have adopted or donated in the past to say thank you for the support.
“I’m always looking for any way to get adoption out in the community and specifically to say thank you to the people that have adopted and the people that have supported us,” Lynch said.
