A 22-year-old was shot Friday just before midnight during a drive-by shooting.
Lt. Sam Miller with the Selma Police Department, said the shooting happened Friday night around 11:50 p.m. on the 1600 block of Ceola L. Miller Avenue. Miller said the male victim was shot in the back of his foot while standing outside of his girlfriend’s house.
According to Miller, a group of people drove by and started shooting the house next to the victim’s girlfriend’s house. Miller said the victim was hit by a stray bullet on the back of his foot during the shooting.
The victim was treated at Vaughan Regional Medical Center and later released.
Miller said the house that was shot into was occupied when the drive-by happened.
Miller said the shooting was a result of an on-going dispute between multiple entities that have been shooting at each other.
“Basically what you have is a group of people between Selma, Selmont and Lowndes County that for some reason has a beef with each other, and what they’re doing is riding around at night shooting up each other’s houses,” Miller said. “Innocent people are getting hit because these young men can’t settle their differences like men.”
No arrest has been made in the case, and investigators are still piecing together information.
Miller said multiple shell casings from handguns that were found at the crime scene will be sent to forensics.
