Two Selma men that were wanted for allegedly robbing a Marion bank in September were arrested Wednesday.
According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, 34-year-old Fortune Hoppins and 28-year-old Stanley Young were arrested Wednesday morning by U.S. Marshals in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
“It is a sign of relief,” said Perry County Sheriff Billy Jones. “All of the agents were tailing them, and they did get kind of close to them last week. I think that is why they left and went to Connecticut. The Marshals here in Alabama made contact with the Marshals in Connecticut, and all of the information that we had was forwarded.”
Jones said the U.S. Marshals in Connecticut were able to apprehend Hoppins and Young without incident.
Hoppins and Young have been on the run since allegedly robbing West Alabama Bank on Sept. 14 in Marion with 24-year-old Jabrell Keon Bell.
Bell was arrested in early October by U.S. Marshals. He was charged with first-degree robbery, fist-degree conspiracy to commit robbery and first-degree kidnapping.
Jones said Hoppins and Young have the same charges as Bell for the robbery and are also facing charges in Bridgeport. Jones said Hoppins and Young had weapons on them when they were arrested.
“Once their court proceedings are finished, then that’s when we will extradite them back here to Perry County to face the bank robbery charges,” Jones said.
Jones said he is not sure how soon they will be extradited back to Alabama. Hoppins and Young are currently being held without bond.
Jones said Hoppins is also facing charges for allegedly burglarizing a Dollar General in June. Both he and Young will also face charges for allegedly robbing a man, tying him up and setting his home on fire in Marengo County
