Leverette to lead Christmas parade

The Selma Christmas parade, one of the most anticipated events in December, will be held Saturday morning on Broad Street. Santa Claus is always nice enough to pay Selma a visit and usually rounds up the parade as area children look on.
While the big man in red will get plenty of attention, the best story of the parade will be at the front. Myron Leverette from the Cahaba Center is serving as the parade’s grand marshal.
Organizers wanted to get the special needs community involved in the parade and needed someone who would represent the Cahaba Center well. Leverette sounds like the perfect fit, and he’s more than deserving of some recognition.
Leverette has participated in the Special Olympics track and field program for 18 years at the local, regional and state level and is a decorated athlete. He has multiple medals and hopefully he’ll wear them Saturday.
“I think he’s a very good representative of the city of Selma. He’s always happy, he likes to laugh, he likes to make other people laugh, he’s overcome a lot of obstacles in his life and he’s stayed true to who he is,” said Michael Leverette, Myron’s brother.
We applaud the city for getting the special needs community involved in the parade and we want to congratulate Leverette for this huge honor. The parade will be held on Broad Street Saturday at 10 a.m. We hope to see you there.
