When the rain started falling Monday night, it almost seemed like a dream. After all, it had been since mid-September since it last rained significantly.

Selma and Dallas County got much more rain than expected Monday night and Tuesday morning, and it was more than welcome. Alabama, along with many other states are under a serious drought right now, and any and all rain helps tremendously. With conditions as dry as they are, wild fires are starting and spreading within the blink of an eye.

The Great Smokey Mountains and Gatlinburg can attest to that. Over the last few days wild fires have ravaged through the Smokey Mountains, destroying hundreds of homes and forests.

While more rain is expected our way, we should all take heed to the burn ban that is still in place. Burning, whether it is controlled or not, is not allowed right now. There have been grass fires reported in Selma and Dallas County, and those could easily spread if fueled by wind and dry conditions. Let’s all take caution and think about those that are being affected by the wild fires elsewhere.
