William James Ikerman

William James Ikerman of Acworth, Georgia, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Nov. 16, 2016, at the age of 83.
He was born May 1, 1933, in Selma.
He was a professor of history at several educational institutions, including 30 plus years at the University of North Alabama. He specialized in American History, The War between the States, and military history.
He was a Korean and Viet Nam war veteran. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and 14 years in the Army National Guard.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Henry Ikerman and Edith Ann Fulford Ikerman of Selma; brother, Francis Ikerman; sister, Dorothy Ikerman Averitt; and daughter, Rachel Ikerman Hean.
He is survived by his wife, Carol S, Cruse Ikerman of Acworth, Georgia; son, William J. Ikerman and his wife Angelia Ikerman of Athens, Alabama; 10 grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held on Nov. 26, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the home of Sam and Kristen Wood, 42 Stone Court, Acworth, GA, 30101.
